IPC Michael V. Carano Teacher Excellence Award

Overview

The IPC Education Foundation has established the “Michael V. Carano Teacher Excellence Award” to support the professional development for secondary and post-secondary educators pursuing training related to the electronics industry. The award includes a $1,000 award prize and a one-year membership pass to IPC EDGE, IPC’s on-line learning platform. Educators need to be nominated by a student to apply. 

 
Purpose

The IPC Education Foundation has established the “Michael V. Carano Teacher Excellence Award” to support the professional development for secondary and post-secondary teachers, instructors and educators pursuing training related to the electronics industry.

The Award recognizes the extraordinary contributions that Michael Carano has made to IPC and the electronics industry. As a long-standing IPC volunteer, Carano has served on 16 IPC committees and is a recipient of the IPC Hall of Fame Award – one IPC's highest level of volunteer recognition. A published and prolific writer, Carano has written more than 150 technical articles and has presented numerous papers throughout the world. Carano is a frequent lecturer at IPC events and has consistently been rated as one of IPC's best instructors.

Michael Carano currently serves as the Vice President of Technology & Business Development at RBP Chemical Technology, Inc. where he directs the global business development and advanced research and development RBP’s electronics, mining and medical chemicals businesses. This includes materials and processes for PCB, semiconductor, photovoltaic and functional/decorative coatings.

Eligibility 

In order to apply for the “Michael V. Carano Teacher Excellence Award”, applicants need to meet the following criteria:

  • Must be nominated by a student
    • How to be nominated: A student needs to email [email protected] with the following information on the Educator: First name, Last name, Title, Role and Motivational statement, Email address and Phone number to obtain your unique identifier to access the IPC Scholarship Platform.
  • Perform the role of a teacher, tutor or instructor at an accredited learning institution
  • Is actively involved in the mission of the IPC Education Foundation
  • Serve as an IPC Student Chapter Faculty Advisor and/or Academic Instructor (preferred)
  • Be a Subject Matter Expert (SME) within the electronics manufacturing industry such as, but not limited to, engineering, electronics, science, technology
  • Serve high school or college students
  • Proof of role as teacher, tutor or instructor will be required to receive the scholarship money
  • Applicants may apply only once per calendar year
  • Submissions should be in English

IPC Education Foundation scholarships and awards are awarded without regard to race, sex, religion, age, national origin or sexual orientation. IPC Education Foundation will not award scholarships to applicants who are not qualified and reserves the right not to award a scholarship in a given year.

 

Selection Criteria 
  1. Demonstrated or expressed interest in electronics research and/or electronics manufacturing education
  2. Educator Essay or Motivational Statement
  3. Statements from references
  4. Any additional information that would motivate application
 
Application Requirements 

To be considered for the “Michael V. Carano Teacher Excellence Award”, applicants must complete an online application by October 4th. The application must include:

  1. An online completed application form. Only completed application forms will be considered.
  2. Two references in the form of a statement or letter of motivation received from professionals.
  3. A personal statement stating the applicant's qualifications and educational and career achievements.
  4. Upload any pictures, videos or completed projects that showcase your interest in the industry or contributions to the industry.
All four of the above items must be submitted before the application will be considered.

 

Submission of Application Form 

The Application Process is all online. Follow these steps: Please send an email to: [email protected] to obtain your unique identifier to access the IPC Scholarship Platform. Note that you will have to create a username and password to access the application site. Click on “Scholarships” and access the specific “Scholarship Application Form” applicable to you. Open that form and complete electronically.

 

Submission of Letters of Recommendation 

Letters of motivation will be generated within the online platform. Applicants will be able to send an email to their references requesting a letter of motivation or reference statement endorsing the applicant’s application. The reference will receive an email with a link that will allow him or her to submit the letter of motivation electronically. The applicant will be notified once the reference completed the letter of motivation. Each applicant needs two letters or statements of motivation to be considered.
