IPC Student Member Scholarships

IPCEF awarded $72,000 in scholarships and awards in 2024. $52,000 were awarded to IPC Student Members for their accomplishments at the following IPC Student Chapters: Auburn University, Purdue University, Binghamton University, California Polytechnic State University, Central Carolina Community College, Michigan Tech University, University of California, Irvine, University of Maryland, College Park, and University of Utah.

  • 45 IPC Student Member Scholarship winners each received $1,000 designed not only to reduce the financial burden, but also to encourage students to enhance their knowledge and skills of real-word industry-related experiences.
  • 7 IPC Student Members received $1,000 and are awarded to recognize students’ leadership capabilities, the impact they had while serving, and ability to plan and/or host successful engagement initiatives for its chapter members. 
  • The 2024 IPC Michael Carano Teacher Excellence Award of $1,000 goes to Professor Gerald Herder, a Professor with the Electromechanical Engineering Technology Department at California State Polytechnic University Pomona, aka Cal Poly Pomona.

2024 IPC APEX EXPO - Best Student Poster

$2,000 Scholarship + $750 Award Prize

Two Auburn University doctoral candidates authored a poster on drop shock performance of solder alloys in BGA assemblies that won Best Student Poster at IPC APEX EXPO 2024. They received a $750 cash prize and a $2,000 scholarship.

Palash Vyas is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Industrial Engineering with more than three years of research experience in reliability testing of PCBs. The poster was co-authored by Soroosh Alavi, who has bachelor and masters of science degrees in industrial engineering and is now in his third year in industrial and systems engineering, while also working on a master’s degree in data science.

2024 IPC APEX EXPO - Best Student Technical Paper

$3,000 Scholarship

Emily Lamport is a student researcher at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell who received a $3,000 scholarship from IPC Education Foundation for her research into process optimization for additive manufacturing techniques. She is a Ph.D. student who submitted a paper titled “Implementation of 3D printed Near Chip-Scale interposers into X-band dual channel MMIC assembly.” She presented her paper during the Technical Conference at the IPC APEX EXPO in Anaheim, CA on Wednesday, April 10th.

Bio: Gerald Herder is a Professor with the Electromechanical Engineering Technology Department at California State Polytechnic University Pomona, aka Cal Poly Pomona. Throughout his 35 years of teaching courses across the discipline he has led the development of industry informed courses in Printed Circuit Design, Industrial Control Electronics, Instrumentation and Electronic Communications and RF/uWave test and measurement.

Personal Statement: “I have always felt that teaching our young people is its own award but being recognized by organizations outside the University, such as with the IPCEF Michael Carano Teacher Excellence Award is a great honor. I have also been impressed with the “can do” attitude of the electronics partners IPC represents and how they have greatly impacted technology and society.
